Images of the Costume Department/ Storage
On the 21st of January, I was able to visit the Royal Opera Houses Production Park in Purfleet, Thurrock. The Production park was purposely built to be a state of the art craft workshop, housing a metal workshop, a wood work shop, a scenic artist department, a costume department and much more. Opening in 2010, the production park has been filled with highly skilled artists/workers creating many different productions including ballet.
We were toured around the workshops, Amanda Hall (Head of Costume) took us around the costume department and Emma Troubridge (Head of Scenic Art) throughout the workshops and scenic painting. This really gave me the opportunity to see the real work that goes into making for a large production. As well as the amount of people needed to make a production come to life. It was great to see the costume department in such a huge warehouse, the history that is stored in there was amazing. I was very overwhelmed by how organised and the the vast amount of costumes they had to store. I also found out about the separate room where everything that is highly looked after is kept, things that are too valuable to be in day light.
I really enjoyed the trip to the Royal Opera Houses Production Park, it has really amazed me and gone beyond what I ever thought through their amazing workshops and facilities they have at hand.
