Learning from before, using the Kappa-line Foam board. I knew that I needed to create a base coat, something to stop the water from the paint being absorbed into the foam. From this I decided to try 'Foam Coat' Rosco brand (Left), this has worked really well as a base layer. Instead of using acrylic, I wanted to try using Rosco paints for creating the colour the bricks as well as the mortar. (Middle) To begin I watered down the Rosco paint to give it a washy effect, however I underestimated how pigmented Rosco paints are...Which I need to keep in mind.

(Right) My next step was to create a variety of brick colours to randomly paint onto my sample, bricks in real life can be all the same colour...however, overtime they change due to weathering and what they have naturally been exposed to, also depending on what they are made of. Some brickworks use different coloured bricks to create a more interesting look, these tend to be on the cheaper side.

(Left) I then dry brushed some light grey onto the bricks to get the details from the bricks, allowing the broken or eroded parts to be visible. (Middle) I watered down some Rosco paints, learning from earlier...I watered the paint down as much as possible until I had a puddle of paint. This seamed to work, I was aiming to create a dirty gross look to the bricks, due to the environment they are in 'In a sewer' they won't be nice and clean, especially with hundreds of people living in them for over 50 years.

(Right) I looked at sample, thinking how it is missing something...So I began thinking about the gunk, or fluids that would cause the walls of the tunnel to ooze. After speaking with my peers and gaining their thoughts, I decided to drip a dark green watered down Rosco paint to create that horrible visually disturbing aspect of the walls.

I really like how this has turned out because it is how I imagine walls would look in such an environment. I want to add a wet look to the walls, perhaps by adding a gloss in some places to create a greasy/oily look. This would also make the texture of the bricks show through.
